Many people have been misconception about allergies. First and fore most it is important to understand the fact about food sensitivities. On the other hand, true food allergy that many confuse with food tolerance is manifested through symptoms that quickly appear within minutes to an hour after eating the offending food. The symptoms associated with true food allergies are usually skin-related, such as hives, rashes and respiratory system and difficulty in breathing and asthma. A true food allergy may also cause one to experience the common food borne illness symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Food allergy symptoms may became systemic and cause anaphylaxis that sometimes leads to death. This is the reason why food allergies are serious.
Consumer may take the following step to reduce the risk of allergic reactions at home or in the workplace.


- At home have a list prominently posted in the kitchen for your household to take note of, just incase someone who does not know your family sensitivities brings you food.
- When grocery shopping, read product labels carefully about the ingredients used in the disk that you are about to order.
- If you suspected you have a food allergy, have a condition tested properly by a medical professional.
- After proper diagnose of the food allergy, educate every one in your home about the allergen. Teach them where the allergen may be found and what to do if an allergen reactions occurs.
- Remember to wash utensils thoroughly after every use. This is just basic safe food practice.
