Do you like ice cream, I know everyone love ice cream especially me. But did you know that no one really knows who invented ice cream. It probably was created in a number of places around the world at various times in history. Some expert believes these were popular thousand years ago. Around 200 B.C. in china packing it in snow solidified a soft mixture of milk and rice. The Roman Emperor Nero enjoyed mixture of fruit crushed with snow and honey and Alexander the Great sent runners to the mountain to bring back snow so he could have a wine-flavored ice. When Marco Polo returned to Europe from his travel, he brought with him a recipe for tasty ice and milk dessert. These desserts became popular among the rich, and royal chef’s kept working to improve the recipe. These recipes were closely guarded secrets for many years. After ice cream was introduce with the colonies, many of our country founders become ice cream addict like Thomas Jefferson, gorge Washington and Dolley Madison. The first ice cream plant was opened at United State century and half ago. The owner would never have believed that today annual ice cream sales in this country are over 3 billion.

Who was Valentine? The name valentine ( priest Valentio ) does not occur in the earliest list of roman. Valentine was a priest in Rome and He was apprehended, and to be beheaded, on February 14, about the year 270. Saint Valentine he’s remains still a mystery. One opinion is that he was a Roman martyred refusing to give up his Christian faith. Other historians said, that Saint Valentine was a temple priest, jailed for defiance during the reign of Claudius. Valentine really existed because archaeologists have unearthed a Roman catacomb and an ancient church dedicated to Saint Valentine. Pope Gelasius 1 first established the feast of Saint Valentine in 496. The greatest parts of his relics are now in the church of St. Praxedes. His name is celebrated as a martyr. Some say that Saints are not supposed to rest in peace; they’re expected to keep busy: to perform miracles, to intercede. One legend says, while awaiting his execution, Valentines restored the sight of his jailer’s blind daughter. Another legend says, before he’s execution he penned a farewell note to the jailer’s daughter, signing it, “From your Valentine.” He is the Patron Saint represented in pictures with birds and roses.

I am craving for fresh jackfruit. I am looking forward to eating jackfruit this weekend. For those who do not know what jackfruit is. Jackfruit is a big, oval fruit with spikes on the skin. It has a very strong smell and taste when it is ripe. I like it when it is ripe. It is very juice and sweet. Its scientific name is Artocarpus heterophyllus. Here in the Philippines, we call it Langka or Nangka. We include jackfruit as one of the ingredients in binignit, halo-halo, and toron and other native delicacies. We cooked the seeds too – we either boil or grill it. It is very tasty. Nowadays, you can find Jackfruit Nangka/Langka in sherbet, ice cream, and even in cans.

It is scary to think of A(H1N1) virus. The Department of Health here in Philippines and Department of Education are on alert about the possible outbreak of the flu. One of the ways to avoid this flu is to wash our hands before we put anything in our mouth. In case, you have some symptoms similar to human flu like, fever, diarrhea, vomiting, sore throat, muscle pains, severe headache, coughing, weakness and body malaise. You should go to the near health center or consult your doctor. Since it is already school time here in the P.I, parents should tell their kids or students to wash with soap or sanitize their hands with alcohol before eating.
